Japan bans exports of low temp refrigeration to Russia

JAPAN: The export of low temperature refrigeration equipment and other “cutting edge” technology to Russia is to be banned under new sanctions imposed by the Japanese government.

Making the announcement yesterday, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said the decision was made in view of the international situation surrounding Ukraine, and in order to “contribute to the international efforts for international peace aiming at solving this problem”.

The ban on the export of “cutting-edge” goods, described as “quantum computers, 3D printers, etc”, destined for Russia was made under Japan’s foreign exchange laws and comes into force on May 20. 

The list of affected goods includes electron microscopes, 3D printers, LEDs and solar cells, as well as “cooling equipment designed for extremely low temperatures and their accessories and their components (quantum technology related)”.
