BESA webinar to explain DSEAR

UK: BESA is hosting a free webinar this week on the important Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR).

The regulations are intended to protect people from risks to their safety in the workplace, and to members of the public who may be put at risk by work activity.

Webinars speakers include Peter Slee-Smith who heads up Dodman DSEAR, a company that specialises in helping UK food processing companies implement and comply with the DSEAR regulations, and Scott Harding, sales director and joint owner of industrial process fan manufacturer Woodcock & Wilson.

Slee-Smith’s presentation will provide a brief introduction to DSEAR and the steps required by the employer to comply with these complex regulations. He will explain responsibilities, the risk assessment process, implementation of DSEAR and how to seek guidance and support.

With a reliance on manufacturers of hazardous area equipment to get it right, Harding’s presentation will cover the pitfalls in the certification process by both notified bodies and manufacturers.

It will highlight how manufacturers and OEMs’ conformity assessment is incorrectly reviewed and how notified bodies are unaware of the correct EN standards to assess to. Scott Harding maintains that as non-electrical hazardous area equipment can be manufactured without any independent technical review or testing, this puts end-users at immense risk.

The presentation includes guidance on how to look for issues with product certification and how the reliance on a declaration of conformity could be fatal.
